About Rochelle's Beads and Jewelry

Rochelle makes all of her clay beads by hand. She likes that her technique makes each bead slightly irregular, so that no two beads are exactly alike.

She uses a type of polymer clay which is cured by baking. Her textures are made with stamps, found objects and carving into the clay by hand. The colors you see in the beads are the actual colors of the clay. Sometimes she works gold, silver and copper foils right into the clay, other times she applies soft metallic finishes after curing which give an antique, burnished effect. Rochelle's beads are lightweight, durable and very comfortable to wear. She takes pride in using clasps that are strong, wire that won't tarnish or fray, and fine leather cord for her pendants. Unless otherwise specified, the hooks used in her earrings are made of surgical steel which is suitable for most peoples' skin.

If you have ever been to one of Rochelle's booths during a Show & Sale, you have seen the beautiful, shimmering effects in her beads up-close. She will encourage you to pick up and touch the pieces that are on display, to feel the textures and how lightweight the beads really are. She always welcomes your questions and is happy to hold a mirror for you while you try on jewelry!

About the Artist

Rochelle Dahl has been an artist since she was a child so it made sense to her to pursue it as a career as well. She has spent two years in the Graphic Design program at the Alberta College of Art & Design,  another two years in the Printing Management Technology program at SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) followed by the Bachelor of Design program at the University of Alberta. She feels that one type of design is transferable into another, and that her knowledge of graphic design has been useful in the aesthetics of her bead making and jewelry design.

Rochelle has found a lot of creative inspiration from living on the West Coast for the past seven years, first in Vancouver's West End and then on Vancouver Island. Last year she relocated to Ontario, and although she misses the coast, she is enjoying new experiences in her new home.

In addition to jewelry, Rochelle does illustration, photography and wearable art design. She is also the owner/publisher of Canada's new creative resources website, www.creativejunction.net.
